2 Meetingstrippeddevi 1 Help Hkc :search3 Fast p Cunt Cgi SsearchIt is so easy to start eating healthy. The most simple way I can think of is buying organic meat and produce. It doesn't take any extra time to prep these items for cooking. Organic carrots are just like regular carrots....you still have to peel and slice them. Except with organic carrots you get chemical free produce items which are more nutritious.
How does this translate to recipes? In the first epsiode for example, I used organic grass fed beef for the beef curry. It took the same effort to wash and slice as regular beef. No extra work to buy organic. In the rice recipe I used organic carrots, butter and rice. Just by purchasing the organic items on my grocery list I get the benefits of eating healthier than non organic meat and produce without any extra work in food prep.
Yes, there is actually red rice. It's more similar to bran in color than being bright red. This kind of rice is also a healthier alternative to white rice because it is whole grain. It's the hull color which makes it seem red. My family eats this with curry more often than brown as the red has an even lower glycemic level. You can find this in health food stores, Asian stores and of course over the Internet.
There is also black rice, sweet rice, jasmine rice, wild rice and more. My absolute favorite kind of rice is sweet rice, which I call sticky rice. You may also know it as Mochi. And yes, there is brown sticky rice too. My favorite way to eat it is hot and fresh right out of the rice cooker with freshly grated coconut, toasted sesame seeds and a pinch of salt. hhhhhmmmmmm.
I wanted to share some thoughts with you about rice. All Myanmar curries are eaten with white basmati rice. If I was cooking for someone who never ate Myanmar food before I would serve them white basmati rice. This way they experience the cuisine in it's purist cultural form. However, on an everyday basis I eat brown basmati rice. I know it might seem odd, but I really like eating my curry with rice this way. If you want to make the switch over to brown rice try mixing brown and white together first. Then slowing increase your proportion of brown rice and decrease the amount of white rice until you get all brown rice.
Why do I eat brown rice? White rice has all the nutrients stripped from it. The glycemic levels are high and it is a simple carbohydrate with little fiber. Brown rice is a complex carbohydrate, high in fiber and low glycemic levels. As Dr. Oz would say, "Stay away from the white.". Health food and organic food stores are stocked with these mighty whole grains. Even regular grocery stores are selling more whole grain products. But read your ingredients, high frutose corn syrup and trans fatty acids could be hiding in your food. That's a blog for another time. Anyway, I'm not a doctor or a nutritionist. I simply wanted to share why I eat brown rice with my curry. It's more important to me to be healthy than to just be thin.
So....come on!!!! Try brown rice, your body will love you for it.

As I was running errands for Father’s Day I decided to stop in at the bookstore. Since I love cooking so much I was drawn to the huge selection of cookbooks and all the new culinary trends that were displayed in this section. When I was done I turned to see the neighboring section of sci-fi, graphic novels and manga. It was like a revelation, a cloud separating and beam of light shinning down on this genre that I NEVER noticed being right next to the cookbooks before. I’m probably reading way too much into this, but I can’t help it. I guess I needed or wanted a sign of “It’s not crazy to mix all these genres together with cooking.” And I came to realize, “Of course it’s not crazy!”. I love doing this!!!! I’m only doing what I would want to watch myself. Cause trust me there are plenty of days I think “What am I doing?” Who is going to watch this or surf this on the Internet?” I’ll be happy if just one person takes a look. And all of you who Like me on Facebook have already surpassed by expectations.
What a great weekend!!!! I went to a comicon to check out all the great panels and of course the vendor hall. It was such a last minute decision to go. I’ve been so wrapped up in filming the next episodes I just haven’t had time to enjoy the things that have inspired my cooking show storylines. So I threw on a pair of jeans and my Princess Leia t-shirt.
Here is where my truly inspirational moment came. As I was walking through the vendor hall I came across the autograph table. There was Felicia Day of The Guild. How awesome is it to be hit with such a surprise. Well, I just had to get a pic with this fellow web-series creator. It’s so great so see a strong female that is also a great role model in a male dominated industry of comic books and gaming. The next time I’m editing a new episode and things just aren’t going my way and can just look at my pic with Felicia Day and say “I can do this!!!”
By the way for those of you who are curious…..she is super nice, very personable, down to earth and genuine.
There were also great female comic artists that I got to speak with and WOW are they amazing!!! They are creative, motivated and passionate. It surely recharged my batteries. I had a great time connecting with all the great talented people there and share the love of creating film, characters and artistry.
Enjoy the pic everyone!!!
Meeting Felicia Day at the Comicon.
One a side note, keep an eye out for my episode two trailer. There’s a new character in town and she’s gonna cook you right out of the kitchen………Devi-vicious.
Got the Muse playing today while working. Hopefully, I’ll get what I need done by tonight.
The crew and I did some test shots of the new kitchen we will be using in our next set of episodes. We also had to tests which Myanmar outfits would look best in this new kitchen. Here are some behind the scene shots.
Enjoy!!!!
Nice Stove Top
Let me write down which outfits worked.

First of all……SO SORRY EVERYONE!!!!!!! I wanted to have the full video episode out in January for you guys. But we ran into technical issues. I had to make a decision with my webmaster and we thought it best to delay and fully test before making it available. I want it working for everyone.
So thank you all for being patient. I’m hoping that it will be out this week. I will make another post when it is ready.
On another note, get ready for some video diaries and behind the scenes videos of our upcoming projects…..meaning production of our new videos. See what we do and how we do it. Now I can’t show everything. I don’t want to spoil it for you when it’s finished
Ok, I started out the New Year with a massive double ear infection. I thought it was just a little sinus irritation, boy was I wrong. Today is the first day since New Year’s Eve I have felt totally back to normal again. I don’t know why it took me sooooooo loooooong to recover.
Anyway, I’m really excited to have the first video coming out this month and I’ve got some really cool things lined up this year. I hope everyone is taking a look at the trailer…..it’s so much fun.
Not only do I cook Myanmar food, but I love crossing over and creating fusion dishes with types of things that are definitely not Myanmar. First of all I love desserts and also love baking. One of the things I’m working on right now is a Chocolate Coconut pie. Coconut is a very common Myanmar ingredient or flavor, but the pie part is very……..let’s just say they don’t eat that over there in Myanmar.
Until next time,
Dévi
