A 13-year-old from Bhilwara district, 270 km south of Jaipur, committed suicide on Wednesday, after being ragged and stripped by classmates.
The deceased, Murali Sharma, was a Class 7 student of a boarding school run by the Hari Shewa Dham Trust.
Police recovered a suicide note
from his pocket. In the note, Murali named the four students, who he said, first beat him, and later stripped him.
SHO Bhimganj police station Teja Ram said, "Murali was absent at dinner. His classmates went to his room and found it locked from inside. When he did not open it after repeated knocking they called the teachers. The authorities in turn called the police, who broke open the door and found Murali hanging from the ceiling fan."
Medical jurist Dr VD Sharma said, "The neck of the deceased was broken due to hanging and his penis was not in shape, which could be due to beating. But no signs of homosexual behaviour were found on the body."
Bhilwara SP Umesh Datta said Murali's father Shiv Narayan Sharma had filed an FIR and a case has been lodged under section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the India Penal Code. The accused boys, three of whom are minors, have been detained for questioning.
According to the statement given by one of the accused, Ramesh (name changed), all the five boys had gone for a picnic to Harni Mahadev temple on Wednesday. While the other boys were in the temple, Murali spent R100, the money allotted to the group by the school for the outing.
When the boys discovered this, the boys flew into a rage and assaulted him.
After the incident, the school administration switched off their phones, and the school remained shut. Murali was a resident of Ama village in Bhilwara district. The body was handed over to his uncle Gheesa Lal.
