  Seems to me that this article highlights a cultural problem in India and beyond.

  We all know that the world is already over populated and is going to get much worse.

  It's just sad that the couple were stigmatised by their community for not having children. It would have been far better if they had adopted a child / children when they were younger rather than the current situation where they may not live to see their daughter get to adolescence.

  Right, so man marries woman. "Woman" is unable to have children. Man marries other woman, yet this "woman" too is unable to have children. Er, how likely is it that it was actually the man who couldn't have children?

  Indian doctors do not need to take into account a mother's age, only her physique.

  What is that supposed to mean?

  So if a plump, pubescent 12-year-old gets pregnant, then that's OK?

  I was immediately reminded of this recent news item:
